Kolacky Days - 85th Annual - Grand Marshals - Jim and Patti Mladek.jpg

As we dug through the archives, the earliest mention of a Grand Marshal was in 1953.  According to the Montgomery Messenger, Sgt. Leslie White of Waseca, who arrived home the Saturday before the Kolacky Day celebration after spending two years in a Communist prison camp in Korea, was bestowed the honor of Grand Marshal.  Since then many great men and women have received this cherished honor!

MACC felt there was no one more deserving than Jim and Patti Mladek for the 2019 Grand Marshals.  Both of them are members of the Montgomery Area Community Club and spent their time volunteering throughout the years for the Bun Run, Tour de Bun, and the Classic Car Show and both volunteer their time delivering Meals on Wheels. Both are also active members of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and have been chairs for various Most Holy Redeemer Fall Festival committees.

Jim is a past President of the Montgomery Area Community Club, former Mayor, former Councilman, a past firefighter and Fire Chief, been a member of various city boards - Planning & Zoning, Public Utilities, Economic Development Authority - a past member of the Most Holy Redeemer Parish Council and School Board and has been involved in the Montgomery Jaycees. He is currently a lector at church, member of the Knights of Columbus, Lion’s Club, Masopust committee, May Day committee, President of the Montgomery Historical Society and the Most Holy Redeemer Calvary Cemetery board.  It is also believed, he is the 1st - 3rd Generation Recipient of the Grand Marshal honor with his parents, Elroy and Armella Mladek, receiving the honor in 1990 and his grandma Emma Mladek receiving the honor in 1963 with her twin sister, Lil Charles.

Patti is a nurse, past member of the Montgomery Jaycee Women organization that used to exist in Montgomery and a royal mom that chaperoned Kolacky Royalty when their daughter was part of the royal court. And she is also an excellent card player.

It’s been said that for some people volunteering is about giving, but for the likes of them, it is a way of living so Montgomery thanks you! Congratulations Jim and Patti!

Every spring since 1958, the MACC announces they are seeking nominations for the Kolacky Days Grand Marshal.  These individuals have played a significant role in the development and success of the Montgomery Area.  Congratulations to all our Grand Marshals.
