As we dug through the archives, the earliest mention of a Grand Marshal was in 1953.  According to the Montgomery Messenger, Sgt. Leslie White of Waseca, who arrived home the Saturday before the Kolacky Day celebration after spending two years in a Communist prison camp in Korea, was bestowed the honor of Grand Marshal.  Since then many great men and women have received this cherished honor!

MACC felt there was no one more deserving than Jake and Kay Keohen for the 2018 Grand Marshals.  Both of them are active members of the Montgomery Golf Club and have been involved with the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church as either a lector or a Eucharistic Minister.  Both have volunteered their time delivering Meals on Wheels and have been members of the Montgomery Area Community Club throughout the years and still volunteer their time manning the ticket booth in the park for Kolacky Days.

Jake has been a lifelong resident of Montgomery and been an active member of the business community.  He managed  the funeral home where he provided comfort and care and the local newspaper where he chronicled the lives of Montgomery's residents for over 60 years as editor and publisher. He retired from both in 2016.  He has been involved with the Montgomery Jaycees, the Knights of Columbus, Sons of the American Legion, Montgomery Sno-Busters, and was a part of the Montgomery Golf Club Board of Directors.

Kay has worked at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in the office for over 20 years, been involved with the Queen of Peace / Mayo Clinic fundraisers, volunteered her time with the Friends of the Library and the hospital auxiliary as a volunteer, sews sleep mats for homeless veterans, and spends time fundraising local events for the community like the Montgomery Cancer Classic Golf Tournament.  Finally, she helped her late husband Dick and now Jake with their business undertakings.

In closing the family is proud our community and wear their feelings "on their sleeves" as proud, loyal Montgomery residents and are passionate about our annual celebration and proud supporters of Kolacky Days and what it stands for.

Every spring since 1958, the MACC announces they are seeking nominations for the Kolacky Days Grand Marshal.  These individuals have played a significant role in the development and success of the Montgomery Area.  Congratulations to all our Grand Marshals.
